Guide to Google's Universal Search

As most people know by now, Google has updated its algorithm and search results page so that the results are not limited to text. SE Round Table has created a great preliminary guide on how to capitalize on Universal Search.

The post at SE Round table talks about the following 7 areas of Universal Search:

  1. Standard Content/Web Search
  2. Blog Search
  3. Image Search
  4. Video Search
  5. Local/Maps Search
  6. News Search
  7. Books, Patents, Products, Finance, Directory, Code and Catalogs

Here's a sample of what you can expect to find at SE Round Table:

The big one here is Youtube.com and Google Video. Upload videos to one or both. Largely we have seen a lot of videos from Youtube appear in the results. One of the best ways I have found to get videos included is to have the linked to from blog posts, other users and websites and make sure they have good titles. The combination of a little optimization and insane popularity on these sites goes a long way.
