Google is in a buying mood again

A few weeks ago we told you about a new startup whose goal was to improve on the Google algorithms which calculate PageRank by making them faster. The company was formed by 3 members of the Google PageRank research team who decided to go out on their own after they determined that they could make an improvement in the calculations.

What this means to you, the site owner, is that new incoming links will have an impact on rankings sooner. Rather than having to wait three to six months as it is now, your PageRank should change on a more regular basis.

What this means to the search world in general is that Google appreciates the effects future competitors, like MSN, will have on them. We felt the only places MSN could be better than Google were by increasing the number of documents indexed, and making indexing and ranking faster. Google, by acquiring Kaltix, has made a step in the "faster" direction by helping improve part of the ranking algorithm.

One would assume that this is only a first step in improving their algorithms overall. While PageRank calculation improvements are a huge task, they are a good first step in an overall improvement of Google rankings as a whole.

Perhaps we will see a day where the web is indexed in it¡¯s entirety within a month, and new links affecting link popularity and PageRank are accounted for sooner.
