Google Continuing to Gain More Power

  • Jul. 31, 2002

With Google's continuing success, Canoe.ca is the latest to use Google's search results. This is a newly implemented feature that was added with their new design layout during the week of July 22nd - 26th. Canoe's Google search feature is currently not showing the sponsored listings exactly as on Google. The sponsored links are not displayed on the right hand side (as seen on Google), but all as sponsored links at the top of the page.

Ask Jeeves has signed a $100 million three year deal with respect to their Google ad words. Teoma, which is a division of Ask Jeeves is to also show Google’s Sponsored links amongst their search results. These changes are to take place in September 2002 with the switchover from Overture paid listings.

Also in September 2002, Google and Yahoo's contract will be coming to an end. Google faces a battle with Inktomi for providing secondary search results.  Inktomi has also just recently lost iWon to Google as iWon in July recently changed over to show Google results in it's listing but is still showing Overture paid listings amongst the search results. Inktomi's market share has also been constantly falling and with Inktomi focusing more on its search results as of lately it will be looking to get it's search results once again showing on Yahoo's secondary results.
