What are my Paid Submission options?

The paid submissions that are most widely known are: Yahoo's business express submission, GoTo keyword purchase, LookSmart Directory, Real Names, and Google Adwords. Yahoo is one of the most important in terms of visibility (and the hardest to get into). GoTo is a service that provides placement depending on how much you are willing to "bid" for a particular phrase, and LookSmart is gaining a lot of importance as more search engines are starting to use it to provide their directory results. Below is a description of each and some links to more information:
LookSmart
LookSmart's "Express Submit" service does not guarantee commercial sites a listing or better rankings. This isn't pay for placement, as at GoTo.com, where a site can pay more to appear higher in the search results. Nor is it pay for inclusion, where a site would only be included in listings if it paid a fee. Rather, this is pay for consideration. The payment levied against commercial sites ensures that they will be considered for inclusion into the index in a timely manner, but they should ultimately only be listed if they also meet editorial criteria.
In LookSmart's system, commercial sites can pay US $199 to be listed within the directory, assuming they meet acceptance criteria. The vast majority of sites will meet these, so spending the fee isn't much of a gamble. [source: Search Engine Watch]
Looksmart provides the results for the Directory listings at Alta Vista, Excite and MSN to name a few of it's biggest affiliate engines.

Yahoo
Yahoo offers a Business Express submission for $199 US. This guarantees that you site will be reviewed in 7 business days, but it doesn't guarantee that the site will be accepted. Click here for Yahoo's Frequently Asked Questions regarding the express submission.
GoTo
The services offered at Goto involve selecting the search terms that are relevant to your site, and determining what to pay on a per-click basis for each. You decide how much you want to bid on your particular keyword. If you want to be number 1 for your main keyword you have to bid higher then the current #1 site when you search for that word.

Real Names
Real Names is a branding system that allows you to purchase a keyword phrase, and when a person searches for that keyword, they can be directed to your site. When you purchase an Internet Keyword, you can type that word in the URL bar instead of the full web address and you will be taken to your site.
Internet Keywords work in many popular search engines like MSN, AltaVista, GO.com, Google, Looksmart, Inktomi and more.
