Excite at a Glance

Capsule Comments

Since November 28th, 2001 when Infospace purchased the assets of Excite@Home they have not been considered a major player int eh Search Engine world. Excite results consist of paid listings from Overture, with non-paid results from Inktomi. InfoSpace also operates meta search engines Dogpile and MetaCrawler.

According to their website, the results returned from these search engines include commercial (sponsored) and non-commercial results. The current Excite product is designed to identify the intent of a user's search. If the search term (i.e. buy roses) is determined to be commercial in-nature, a blended mix of results weighted towards sponsored results would be displayed. In the case of a non-commercial term (i.e. roses and aphids), the blended mix of results would be weighted towards research-driven results.
