Google has been continuing to gaining popularity. They have continued to expand their products to include some new features such as catalog searches with Google Catalogs, Image Search, Google News (which is continuing to expand to more countries), image search, Froogle which provides an easier way to find information about products for sale online. More Google features, including the ones just mentioned are listed below with some information regarding them.

The Google Web Directory integrates Google's sophisticated search technology with Open Directory pages to create the most useful tool for finding information on the web.

Google Adwords:  AdWords Select™ enables you to manage your own account, and with cost-per-click (CPC) pricing, you pay only when users click on your ad. You control your costs by setting a daily budget for what you are willing to spend each day. This Google Marketing program allows you to purchase highly targeted advertising on the most relevant search engine on the Web. Generally, no more than two enhanced text links appear at the top of the Google results page whenever the keywords or phrases you have purchased are searched for by one of our users.  They provide some of the most relevant results on the Net with the help of their Page Rank system.

Froogle provides easy to find information about products for sale online. By focusing entirely on product search, Froogle applies the power of Google's search technology to a very specific task: locating stores that sell the item you want to find and pointing you directly to the place where you can make a purchase. Froogle Search can be found by using the advance search from google.com, or by going directly to http://froogle.google.com/

Google Blog Search - Much like other Google properties, Google Blog Search is built on the world famous Google Search technology.  Google is a strong believer in the self-publishing phenomenon represented by blogging, and hopes Blog Search will help users to explore the blogging universe more effectively, and perhaps inspire many to join the revolution themselves. http://blogsearch.google.com/

What does Google index?

  • Text in the <title> tag (first position preferred, it will index up to 1129 characters in the title tag). The title is the most important, Meta tags used only if the page has no text, only images.

  • Text within keyword links - <a href="file.html">Keyword</a>

  • Text within the <noframes> tag, even if the page doesn't use the framesrc tag sets.

  • Text that occurs before the <html> tag

  • Text that occurs before the <body> tag, if not inside other tag sets

  • Text inside the <option> tag set

  • PDF, dynamic pages, ASP, JSP, CFM and PHP can all be crawled and indexed.

What doesn't Google index?

  • Text within the <style> sheet tag

  • Text within the <meta > keyword tag

  • Text within the <meta http-equiv> tag

  • Text within the <! -- Comments --> tag

  • Dublin core type meta tags

Other important facts about Google...

  • Google is not case sensitive

  • Google doesn't use the meta description tag for the page summary in the search results. It displays the text around the keyword from the document source and highlights the keyword.

  • Google's searches are "exact" (boolean "and")... otherwise, all of your search words have to be found in the document to show up.

  • Google caches your page content on their server and makes it available through the "Show Matches" link in the search results.

  • Google will list a URL even if it hasn't spidered the page, they are the ones that you see in search results that don't have a regular title, summary or the "Show Matches" link.
